From cool Santa Lucia Highlands, this Syrah shows an inky purple core and intoxicating aromas of blackberry, violets, and cracked black pepper. Whole-berry fermentation and neutral oak aging preserve vibrant fruit while allowing stony terroir to shine - flavors of blueberry compote, smoked meat, and bitter chocolate earned 95 points. The endless finish reveals iron filings and cured olives, requiring two-hour decanting for grilled venison or duck confit to appreciate its Northern Rhône-inspired elegance.
