Gérard Boulay Sancerre Chavignol Tradition is a benchmark Sauvignon Blanc from one of Sancerre’s most historic and respected estates. Sourced from multiple parcels in Chavignol—including sites with Kimmeridgian marl, caillottes, and limestone-rich soils—this cuvée captures the mineral intensity, floral lift, and zesty precision that define classic Sancerre. Organically farmed since 1990, the vines average 45 years old, and Boulay works entirely by hand. Fermentation and aging take place in stainless steel, preserving the wine’s purity and energy. No cultured yeast is used, and SO2 is added sparingly. The result is a dry, elegant white with crushed stone minerality, citrus blossom, and green apple, with a long, linear finish. Unlike Boulay’s single-vineyard bottlings aged in neutral oak, the Tradition cuvée is entirely tank-aged, offering a pure, terroir-driven expression of Chavignol. It’s an ideal introduction to the domaine’s style and one of the most consistently high-rated Sancerres year after year. Drink now or cellar for added nuance.
